This Hot Rock TV show features guests Y&T.  This show was from the legendary Fantasy recording studios in Berkeley- the same studios where Creedence and John Fogerty made their hit recordings. As a DJ on KRQR he Rocker in San Francisco, I had been playing Dave Meniketti and Y&T's music, and promoting them as a personal favorite. In 1984 bands like Night Ranger, Y&T, and Eric Martin were the next "up-and-coming" San Francisco rock stars, following in the footsteps of established artists who appeared on my show like Eddie Money, Grace Slick and the Starship, Sammy Hagar, Journey, and others. Co-producing the TV series gave me an opportunity to call in favors and get some big guests, but it also gave me a chance to showcase newer bands that I believed in.  Dave and some of the band are originally from my hometown, San Leandro, CA.  I had seen Y&T perform as far back as high school, so I knew they were rock solid. This video shows them in their prime! Today, the band is still together, with a new member here and there- and Dave Meneketti remains one of the greatest rock guitarists of the 80s...or any decade.

We've stayed in touch over the years, and Dave has done a few Y&T reunion shows in Sacramento that my radio stations have hosted. In 2000, Dave came down to the station I was running -101.7 The Fox, and played with his solo band for a private breakfast live on air- and with 101 lucky listeners who got invited. The night before, since I'm a bass player- during sound check Dave invited me to play bass while their guy tweaked the soundboard. WOW, what a thrill!

If you're an 80s rock fan- go out and get the Best of Y&T and you'll be reminded of how powerful this band is. Also look for Dave Menketti solo cds, like "on the Blue side" and others to hear what Dave's been up to in his solo career.
